The Easter Money saving game explained

 In budget, savin g tips

It is always during the last week of each month when our cars die without petrol 3km from home and the only thing resembling food in our fridge is a half a loaf of brown bread and a ridiculously hot chilli sauce. Nothing beats that feeling when you find a R50 in your jacket pocket which you have forgotten about. The Easter money saving game emulates that feeling. You can play it every month it only works in the same principle as an Easter egg hunt.

Here are the rules:

  1. At the beginning of the month, once you have sorted your finances and have some spending money left, withdraw a R100 or R200 or any amount you can afford to save.

  1. Break the amount of cash you wish to save into smaller notes like 20 rand notes. Mix it up a little and throw in some 5 rand coins as well.

  1. Now take your money and hide it all around the house. Get the family involved as well and have everyone hide money, this way you won’t know exactly where everyone else has hidden some money.

  1. This process needs to take place within the first few days of the month. Now forget about that money and don’t go looking for it at any point during the month.

  1. Now, when the last week of the month arrives there is no need for anyone to be miserable. Go on an Easter money hunt and look for the money you have hidden. Not only is the reward some much needed cash but it is fun as well.

  1. Once you have found your money, you can spend it on anything you like depending on your situation. Petrol, food, coffee or ice cream for the kids. Just be thankful and rejoice in the fact that you are privileged to have money in the time you need it the most.
