20 Unusual Money Saving Tips Part 1
Never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach, use coupons, don’t use a lot of electricity. We’ve all heard of these money saving tips and more but we thought we should go on the hunt for some of the strangest money saving tips out there. So, without further ado, here are some weird, perhaps useful, money saving tips. Warning, some of these border cheapskate territory.
- Don’t use toilet paper
Pshh, who needs toilet paper when you can simply use newspaper, old bills and current bills (just kidding about that, you need those). Perhaps you can use a cloth and wash it afterwards.
- Use furniture wax on your car
We’ve come across this one while researching. Apparently using furniture wax on your car is a lot quicker and more effective. Whether this is true or not, we unfortunately do not know, but if you are brave enough to try then be our guest.
- Re-purpose that old wine you have lying in the cupboard
What old wine?! If you have a spot of wine left that’s gone a bit undrinkable, say some from New Year’s Eve; turn it into vinegar. It’s quite simple, pour it into a container or barrel of sorts and allow it to grow even older. There you go, you have yourself some vinegar.
- Refill your condiments with takeaway packets
The takeaway places are always so generous with their condiments. Squeeze those tiny packets of tomato sauce for everything they’ve got and see how far you can refill your bottle of ketchup. You would be surprised, frugal friend, how far those tiny packets can get you.
- Go on 2 for the price of one 1 dates
Wacky Wednesday, Man-sized Monday, whatever hashtag worthy promotion a restaurant is having, take advantage. We don’t know how your girlfriend might feel about this idea, but perhaps you can leave her at home and take the other burger home for breakfast.
- Cut your own hair
Ladies, pull your hair into a ponytail and snip. Cutting your own hair will save you not only from having to spend money on the hairdresser but their lightly veiled insults RE your previous haircut. Fair warning though, you might all end up looking like Adam Sandler’s kids in Blended.
- Reuse envelopes
Or you can just send an email, but if you are in need of sending a letter, open your letters carefully, extract the mail, cover the previous address and spend a buck on a stamp. There you go, you’ve just save yourself 20 cents, or how ever much it costs.
- When life gives you lemons…
Make lemonade with the water you order at the restaurant. Just ask for some extra lemon with a glass of water and pour a packet of sugar in there. Stir well and voila, you’ve got yourself a glass of lemonade because water is so boring.
- Make good use of the resources at work
Whether your child’s 50 page project needs printing, or someone “stole” your husband’s pen again, take it from the office. Take anything and everything you possibly can from the office without getting fired. You work hard for these people, the least they can do is provide you with access to free pens and all the ink and paper you want.
- Stop idling
Turn off your engine at red lights or while stuck in traffic. This endless idling drains your petrol and we all know petrol is extremely expensive in this country.
